Department of Eagles new song: While We’re Young

Not quite a summer jam, but well worth a listen, this new Department of Eagles track may have you recalling cool contemplative winter evenings, which after these past few days of brutal NY summer heat is a welcome recollection indeed. Enjoy.

Cults new MP3: Oh My God

Cults, who I’ve mentioned a few times on this blog, have released a new song, “Oh My God” and a video to go along with it. The song’s catchy but doesn’t quite have the same haunting vintage vibe as “The Curse”, which I kind of miss. Still, its fun, and for a band that’s been around for less time than some food currently sitting in my refrigerator, I’d say their doing just fine.

Also, might want to check out the video, if for no other reason than to witness the work of balloon artist Jason Hackenwerth. (yes, balloon artist) Its pretty awesome, and even more so as the video progresses.

Hole “Samantha” MP3

Stereogum posted the newest HOLE release “Samantha” today. This is the track that Billy Corgan has been pissed about for quite some time. (He and Linda Perry co-wrote the song and now that he and Courtney are on bad terms, he’s none too pleased about Courtney releasing it without his permission.) Personally, I think it’s ok, but maybe not quite worth all the fuss. It’s no Violet, Billy.

I am, however, pretty amused by all of the positive comments on Stereogum regarding the photoshop work done on this shot of Courtney. Ha.

Enjoy “Samantha” below:

HOLE free download, SXSW, and tour dates

Ahhhhh. Pardon the interruption, my 13-year-old self is taking over this blog again. For today only, you can download Hole’s new song from the forthcoming album Nobody’s Daughter on the record’s site. Its called “Skinny Little Bitch”, and ahem ahem, is it me, or is it not that bad? I mean, alt-rock, yes indeed, but not horrible. Can I admit that I’m now actually starting to get a little excited about this comeback? Enough to possibly try to weasel my way into the SPIN Magazine party at SXSW (where Hole is headlining)? Perhaps. Definitely enough to scope Austin for potential Courtney sightings…

Anyhow, if I (or you) don’t catch her there, here are some other opportunities, as she has just released some tour dates:
March 19th SXSW @ Stubb’s day party Austin, TX
April 22nd Henry Fonda Theater Los Angeles, CA
April 27th Terminal 5 New York, NY
May 3rd O2 ABC Glasgow Glasgow, UK
May 5th O2 Academy Brixton London, UK
May 9th O2 Academy Birmingham Birmingham, UK

The Very Best cover The XX (covering Florence and the Machine)

Enjoy this cover of a cover. All thats left now is for Peter Gabriel to do a cover of this version.

Dr. Dog new song: “Shadow People”

Dr. Dog‘s new record Shame Shame is out 4/6. Here’s the first release off that album, “Shadow People” which premiered today on Stereogum. Apparently My Morning Jacket singer Jim James has some vocals on the record as well, which should be interesting. Looking forward to this one. Also, really hoping they add some more NY tour dates aside from the Terminal 5 gig this Spring. (That place blows, sorry Term 5, but its true.)

Grizzly Bear covers Hot Chip (MP3)

This Grizzly Bear cover of Hot Chip’s Boy From School is fantastic. They recorded it live on Australian radio station TripleJ yesterday. Phenomenal.

New Hot Chip song: Hand Me Down Your Love

Hot Chip have released a second song off their 10-track forthcoming album, One Life Stand, due out early next month. I have to say, I don’t have good news to report. I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the first song they leaked back in November, Take It In and I’m even less so with this one. Is it just me? Or is there something missing? There’s no crescendo, no build-up to a rockin dance party like I’m used to.  Maybe I just need to give it a few more listens. Lemme know what you guys think.
